All our webspace is hosted on lightly loaded servers - typically load average is less than 0.5 - whereas some companies operate at or near maximum load. In addition we offer a suite of software that we believe is second to none in terms of functionality and ease of use. Much of this software is developed in-house, meaning that we can offer bespoke modifications at a very competitive rate.

Our servers have extensive additional modules installed as standard, meaning that open source developers can invariably get their programmes working without the frustration of an unavailable module. In the rare case that a module is not available we can usually install it for you!

All website operations can be carried out securely using a secure URL that will have been sent to you in your welcome email. The system that we use is entitled 42go. The system allows users with a minimum of experience to administer all facets of their website from one administration panel.

Is it possible to offer 20-100Gb Gb of bandwidth as some companies do?      Top

This is usually a headline figure and the vast majority of websites never reach anywhere near this kind of bandwidth usage. If every website were to use their allowed bandwidth then there would be problems! Our packages allow for 100,000s of hits per month, whilst discouraging very high bandwidth users, such as video and MP3 download sites, which would compromise the bandwidth available for other websites.

Where are Scion Solutions' servers physically based?      Top

Our servers are located at the Manchester Science Park data centre - less than an hour from our office, meaning that there is very little that we cannot fix within two hours. All servers are dual RAID and are backed up on a 7 day rota.

What is the uptime percentage for Scion Solutions's servers?      Top

Our servers average 99.9% uptime. Only very rarely do we take the servers down for maintenance, usually during the night, when traffic is lightest. We will always inform you if we are about to do this. A real time of log of server uptime for one of our servers can be viewed here.

How will I know if there is a critical problem with my website?      Top

If there is a server problem other than due to errors in your code or your own external connections then we will receive notification of the problem within 5 minutes, either by text or email. Currently web server, FTP server and email server are monitored (by an external provider), though we are planning to monitor more ports in the future.

Will my data be backed up regularly?      Top

All data on Scion Solutions' servers is backed up on a 7 day rota. This includes web page and script data, site configuration and MySQL data dumps. The data is copied off site and can be retrieved and restored by Scion Solutions for a small fee.
